On Sunday, September 29, 2024, shortly after 10 PM, in Sveti Ivan Zelina, on Zagrebačka Street, a police officer of the Zagreb Police Department was conducting a routine traffic control. During the supervision, he noticed a 50-year-old driver of a vehicle with Zagreb license plates moving in the southern direction. At the moment the driver violated traffic regulations, the police officer decided to stop the vehicle.
The police officer used an official badge with the sign "stop police" to signal the driver to stop. However, the driver ignored the sign and continued driving south, thereby breaking the law. After a short chase, the police officers managed to stop him in the place Gornje Psarjevo, where they conducted further supervision of the vehicle and the driver.
Identified irregularities during supervision
During the conducted supervision, the driver was subjected to a breathalyzer test, and the results showed the presence of alcohol in the blood at a concentration of 1.86 g/kg, which far exceeds the allowed limits. Additionally, it was established that the driver was traveling at a speed of 77 km/h in a section of the road where the maximum permitted speed is limited to 50 km/h. Despite clear signals from the police to stop, the driver continued driving until he was forced to stop after a short chase.
Consequences for the driver
After the police officers established the violations, the driver was immediately arrested and transferred to the competent misdemeanor court. There, he was fined 1770 euros for the offenses of driving under the influence of alcohol and excessive speed. In addition to the fine, the driver was also given a protective measure banning him from operating a "B" category motor vehicle for a duration of six months.
This case is yet another example of the serious consequences of violating traffic regulations, especially when it comes to driving under the influence of alcohol, which poses a direct danger to the driver, passengers, and other road users. The police officers appeal to all drivers to respect speed limits and not to operate vehicles under the influence of alcohol to avoid such and similar situations that can lead to serious accidents and severe consequences.
