The Lika-Senj Police Department reported that 15 traffic accidents were recorded over the past weekend.
Incidents with minor injuries include two accidents. In Gospić, two people sustained minor injuries, while in Senj, one person was injured.
The remaining 13 accidents resulted only in material damage and occurred in the following locations: Otočac (7), Gospić (2), Novalja (2), Senj (1), and Karlobag (1).
During the weekend, actions aimed at increasing traffic safety and sanctioning offenses such as speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs were carried out.
As part of these activities, 27 seatbelt offenses, 14 improper use of mobile phones while driving, 12 speeding offenses, and 6 driving under the influence offenses were recorded.
The highest measured blood alcohol concentration was recorded on Saturday, July 13, 2024, on the A-1 motorway near Kompolje, where a 50-year-old woman from Zagreb was driving a car with Osijek plates under the influence of 1.88 g/kg of alcohol. Due to her intoxication, she lost control of the vehicle, veered to the left, and hit the guardrail, after which the vehicle stopped in the emergency lane.
No injuries were reported in the accident. Due to the risk of continuing to commit offenses, the driver was temporarily detained in a special room until the effects of the alcohol wore off. She was fined and banned from driving a "B" category vehicle for three months.
