A traffic accident that occurred on September 12 in the early morning hours at the intersection of Slavonska Avenue and Marijan Čavić Street caused significant material damage, as well as serious consequences for the driver who caused the collision. The incident followed when a 46-year-old driver, operating a car with Zagreb license plates, lost control of the vehicle due to proximity to the truck in front of him. Despite favorable weather conditions, he did not maintain a safe distance between vehicles, which eventually led to a collision with a truck driven by a 60-year-old female driver. This collision once again highlighted the importance of adhering to traffic rules, especially on roads with high traffic frequency such as Slavonska Avenue.

After the police arrived at the scene, an alcohol test was immediately conducted, which revealed that the driver had 1.52 g/kg of alcohol in his blood. This level of alcohol is considered severe and clearly indicates a significant impact on driving abilities, including reduced reaction time and judgment. The driver was immediately detained and placed in a special room at the police station to ensure his safety and to prevent further driving under the influence of alcohol.

Such incidents, although not uncommon, emphasize the need for stricter traffic control, especially regarding driving under the influence of alcohol. Drivers often underestimate the effect of alcohol on their ability to operate a vehicle, which can have catastrophic consequences. For this reason, penalties for such offenses are severe. The next day, the driver was brought before the Municipal Misdemeanor Court in Zagreb, where he was fined 1510 euros and banned from driving category B vehicles for a period of three months. This penalty is not only a financial measure but also an important step in preventing the recurrence of such offenses.

In addition to the financial penalty and driving ban, the driver was also given six negative points, which further complicates his driving record. According to current laws, negative points accumulate and can lead to permanent revocation of the driving license if a certain number of rules are broken within a short period. This legal consequence aims to encourage drivers to be more responsible on the road, with an emphasis on avoiding alcohol while driving.

Traffic accidents on Slavonska Avenue are not unusual. This is one of the busiest roads in Zagreb, contributing to frequent collisions. Recent reports show that such accidents are often the result of excessive speed, inadequate adjustment to road conditions, or driving under the influence of alcohol. Slavonska Avenue regularly appears on the list of the most critical traffic zones in the city due to its traffic importance, as well as the high number of accidents. Therefore, the police urge drivers to be particularly cautious when driving through this part of the city.
