Throughout history, many foreign rulers have governed this area, but in the end, they all led to this region becoming part of Croatia, a country that these people love and want to live in. These people have often been politically misunderstood and have endured much, but they have always stood by Croatia. Croatia's history has been complex, and the people have gone through different phases. Today, I believe they have finally united under one flag, one cap, one idea, and one country – under Croatia
said the President of the Republic, Zoran Milanović, during his visit to Gospić on the occasion of the City Day celebration.
In his ceremonial address at the City Council session of the City of Gospić, President Milanović also spoke about European funds. He emphasized the importance of using these funds and highlighted two key points.
First, use every euro because we don't know how long it will last, and these are our euros. Second, we should not be grateful for it because we have given a lot in return. We voluntarily gave up the right to manage some instruments of our own development policy. No one should be blamed for this, and no one should be resented or hated.
President Milanović also emphasized that money ensures independence and power. We must take care of this ourselves because the renovation of facades or drainage systems will not make Croatia financially independent
he said.
We must be aware of the times we live in
The times are difficult and complicated, and the world is insecure. We can speak openly here without fear of snipers, while in many other countries, this is not the case. We must be happy with what we have
added President Milanović, referring to the recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
Before the ceremonial session, President Milanović visited the "Like" Museum in Gospić, accompanied by the director, Tatjana Kolak.
In addition to President Milanović, the ceremonial session was also addressed by the President of the City Council of the City of Gospić, Ana Marija Zdunić, the Mayor of the City of Gospić, Darko Milinović, the Prefect of Lika-Senj County and the Representative of the President of the Parliament, Ernest Petry, and the Minister of Science and Education of the Republic of Croatia and the Representative of the Prime Minister, Radovan Fuchs.
Alongside President Milanović, the President's Advisor for Human Rights and Civil Society, Melita Mulić, was also present.
Apart from the historical aspects, President Milanović emphasized the importance of local development through the use of available European funds. At the ceremonial session, the need for smart and efficient investment was highlighted, with a special focus on projects that will ensure financial stability and independence in the long term. Many speakers agreed that the key lies in properly directing funds towards sustainable and useful projects that will bring lasting benefits to the community.
Also, an important part of the ceremony was the discussion about the current challenges facing Croatia. President Milanović appealed for unity and togetherness, emphasizing that only together can we overcome difficulties and build a better future for all citizens. "It is time to turn to the future, keep our focus on important issues, and work for the benefit of our state," concluded the President.
Additionally, the visit to the "Like" Museum in Gospić was an opportunity to highlight the importance of preserving cultural heritage. The President praised the museum's work and efforts in preserving local history and tradition. It was emphasized that culture plays a key role in strengthening the identity of the community and is important for future generations.
