This year's event "Pajdaško sprehajanje", held as part of the 55th Days of Kajkavian Language in Zlatar, gathered a large number of participants and visitors. This traditional ethno-event, which has been held for many years, represents a key part of the cultural identity of Zagorje, aimed at preserving traditional customs and crafts. As part of the event, participants competed in showcasing old Zagorje customs, using traditional means such as decorated carts and horse-drawn carriages, all in strict adherence to ethnographic standards.
The President of the Republic of Croatia, Zoran Milanović, attended the event and expressed satisfaction upon seeing the efforts and enthusiasm of the local communities. The President emphasized the importance of such events for preserving cultural heritage and the tourist development of the entire region. Many other dignitaries also participated in the event, including the Mayor of Krapina-Zagorje County, Željko Kolar, and the Mayor of Zlatar, Jasenka Auguštan-Pentek, who also supported initiatives for strengthening cultural heritage.
The competition "Pajdaško sprehajanje" has a competitive character, and a professional jury evaluates performances based on originality and fidelity to the presented customs. The first prize, the Golden Lantern, this year went to the Society Naša Djeca (DND) from Zlatar for the presentation "Delidba", while the other two prizes were won by the teams KPD Zlatarjeve and PŠ Martinšćina, with the presentations "Kumice s placa" and "Zemi jabučicu i okrijepi dušicu":contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}:contentReference[oaicite:1]{index=1}.
In addition to the competitive part, the event also includes a rich accompanying program, which features a fair of Family Agricultural Enterprises (OPG) and a Festival of Children's Kajkavian Singing. These contents further contribute to the tourist attractiveness of Zlatar and its surroundings, with a special emphasis on involving children in preserving traditional values. This year, numerous children and youth from local kindergartens and schools participated, which was met with approval and praise from local officials. Mayor Kolar emphasized that this event guarantees the continuation of preserving the Kajkavian language and the cultural identity of the region:contentReference[oaicite:2]{index=2}:contentReference[oaicite:3]{index=3}.
As part of the "Days of Kajkavian Language", the organizers took care of diverse activities, including exhibitions, cultural programs, and a final fireworks display. With great engagement from the local community, the festival attracts an increasing number of visitors each year, contributing to the cultural and social life of Zlatar, as well as the broader tourist development of Krapina-Zagorje County.
