Velika Gorica has once again become the center of cultural events thanks to the “Photo Zagreb County” exhibition, which brings together the best photographic works from across the Zagreb County. The organizer, the Zagreb County Tourist Board, has successfully connected photography enthusiasts with the local community through this project, encouraging everyone to discover the beauties of this region. The exhibition, which will be open to the public in the coming weeks, allows visitors to explore visual representations of the natural and cultural landmarks of this area through the eyes of talented amateur and professional photographers.
This year, the expert jury faced the challenge of selecting winners from numerous excellent submissions. First place was awarded to Danijel Bošnjak for his impressive photograph that successfully captured the beauty of the Zagreb County's nature. Second place went to Iva Šimunec, while Tomislav Krizmanić secured the third place. Through these awarded photographs, emotions and experiences of visitors exploring diverse landscapes, wooden architecture, and local customs are depicted.
In addition to the jury's selection, an important part of the competition was the voting through social media. Josipa Humski was declared the winner on Instagram, while Ines Medenjak won the hearts of the audience on Facebook. Dominik Papić received a special award, making the competition interactive and accessible to a broader audience.
The Mayor of Velika Gorica, Krešimir Ačkar, stated that this exhibition is an exceptional opportunity for regional promotion. “Velika Gorica proudly stands as the heart of Zagreb County, a region rich in natural beauty, cultural heritage, and tradition. The opening of this exhibition celebrates all of this, thanks to the initiative of the Zagreb County Tourist Board. Through artistic photographs, we see new perspectives on the beauties surrounding us,” said Ačkar during the exhibition's opening ceremony.
In addition to its cultural significance, this exhibition is also an important tool for tourism promotion. Slavija Jačan Obratov, Director of the Tourist Board System and Product Development Sector of the Croatian National Tourist Board, emphasized that a picture speaks more than a thousand words when it comes to destination promotion. "This competition combines art, tourism, and the local community, and as such, it is an innovative example of promoting Zagreb County as a tourist destination," she said. Furthermore, such projects contribute to the development of authentic tourist products and strengthening the recognition of the region as an attractive boutique destination.
Visitors to the exhibition also enjoyed the accompanying cultural program, with musical performances by KUD Gradići adding to the atmosphere. The award-winning participants received their accolades in several categories, and everyone agreed that this competition was an outstanding opportunity for promoting the destination through artistic expression.
The exhibition will be available to the public for several weeks, offering all interested parties a chance to see unique scenes of Zagreb County captured through the lenses of talented photographers. Whether it’s well-known tourist destinations or hidden gems, the exhibition offers a fresh and new perspective on the beauty of this region.
