For visitors to this year's Špancirfest, a special show is being prepared by the first BMX cyclist from Croatia to qualify for the Olympic Games, Varaždin native Marin Ranteš. At Varaždin's Kapucinski Square, with enthusiasts of this sport from his hometown, he will showcase some of the skills that led him to the world's biggest sports event, which starts today in Paris. On Thursday, August 29, and Friday, August 30, from 7 PM to 8 PM, he will perform his small show and will undoubtedly impress numerous Špancirfest visitors with his amazing tricks and stunts on the BMX.
Marin Ranteš began his career riding through the streets of Varaždin, and with his persistence and talent, he has already etched his name into Croatian sports history. His journey is an inspiration to many and a testament that dreams can come true with enough effort, dedication, and passion. This will be, just like last year when Ranteš was a part of the festival for the first time, an opportunity to popularize this sport among Špancirfest visitors and an excellent prelude to the international BMX competition School2Rock, which will be hosted at Varaždin's Park Mladih on Saturday, August 31.
This time, the competition will have the status of a national championship, bringing together the best Croatian BMX cyclists in the freestyle discipline, and we hope that we can then say that among them is an Olympic medalist. This will be just a part of the sports content at the 26th Špancirfest, which will also involve the Croatian Handball Federation and the Croatian Tennis Federation.
A special highlight is that Ranteš secured his spot at the Olympic Games this year after an excellent performance in the qualifiers in Budapest, where he placed sixth, allowing him to participate in the world's largest sporting event. Ranteš is known for his impressive tricks, and during his preparations for the Olympic Games, he trained with BMX legend Daniel Dhers in China, further enhancing his readiness for the competition.
His performance at Špancirfest will be an excellent opportunity for the audience to see live the skills that brought him worldwide fame. Ranteš hopes that his performance will inspire young people and encourage them to take up BMX, a sport that requires a lot of courage, discipline, and persistence. As the first Croatian BMX Olympian, Ranteš will demonstrate through his example that with a lot of hard work and dedication, success on a global level can be achieved.
