As the Špancirfest, the largest street festival in Croatia, approaches its end, the upcoming weekend promises a rich program that will satisfy all tastes. The festival, which runs from August 23 to September 1, 2024, has transformed Varaždin into a hub of cultural and artistic events, attracting thousands of visitors to the streets of this historic city.
A kaleidoscope of cultural experiences
Špancirfest 2024 offers a diverse range of activities for all generations and interests. This year, special attention is given to street performances, which have become the heart and soul of the festival. Among the numerous performers from around the world, the Kraken Orchestra stands out, with its members playing musical performances on unusual instruments while riding on a fossil boat, and the Big Bike Orchestra, which performs on bicycles specially constructed for such performances. Also, Stelzen-Art, the renowned stilts masters, are back with their impressive acrobatics that never fail to delight the audience.
Sports spectacles at Špancirfest
Among the many sports activities that have drawn attention, the BMX show performed by Marin Ranteš, a Varaždin Olympian and one of the best BMX riders in the world, stands out. His performances at the Capuchin Square have become an indispensable part of the program, and this weekend will culminate in the international BMX competition School2Rock, which will be held at the Youth Park. This competition, which also serves as the national championship, brings together the best BMX riders from across Croatia, which will further raise the adrenaline among visitors.
Gastronomic delights and nightlife
The Carlsberg Food & Party zone in the park of the Old Town offers a rich selection of food and drinks, along with a musical program covering various genres. This year, special emphasis is placed on the Špancir Burger Festival and the Wine Town, where visitors can enjoy a combination of local and international culinary delights. Additionally, daily musical performances in this zone ensure that the fun lasts into the early morning hours.
Creativity at every turn
Uska Street, known as a favorite street for many visitors, has become a small paradise for creatives. This year, more than 30 exhibitors are showcased, including both new and established designers. Exhibitors such as WallWare, presenting digitally processed vintage images mounted on hand-blown glass and porcelain, and Art+ journal with its luxurious velvet-covered notebooks and journals, attract special attention.
Art in the open air
The artistic street during Špancirfest transforms into a large outdoor studio. Many artists display various styles and techniques, from abstraction to hyperrealism. This year, artists like Anita Kos, known for her hyperrealistic paintings, and street artist Dela, who creates large-format graffiti in interaction with the audience, have attracted special attention.
Špancirfest 2024 continues to captivate visitors with its rich and diverse offerings, confirming its status as the most significant cultural event in Croatia. This weekend represents the last opportunity to experience all the magic that the festival has to offer, so don't miss the chance to be part of this unique experience.
