On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, another successful blood donation campaign was held at the "Admiral flote Sveto Letica-Barba" barracks in Split. This humanitarian event is regularly carried out in cooperation with the Red Cross Society of Split and the Transfusion Medicine Department of the Split Clinical Hospital Center, with the aim of collecting urgently needed blood supplies for patients in emergency situations. In this year's campaign, 78 units of blood were collected, which represents a significant contribution to the local community and healthcare institutions in the region.
The blood donation campaign at the Split barracks is part of a long-standing tradition of the Croatian Navy, which has been organizing these activities since 1992. Four regular campaigns are held every year, but extraordinary campaigns are sometimes organized when there is an urgent need for additional blood supplies. Such solidarity and willingness to help not only save lives but also emphasize the key role of the armed forces in supporting the healthcare system.
In addition to members of the Croatian Navy, the campaign also included members of the Croatian Military Academy "Dr. Franjo Tuđman" and employees of Pleter d.o.o., making the campaign a true example of a joint effort by various sectors in providing assistance. The participants once again demonstrated their humanity and selflessness, which is especially important in times when healthcare systems are faced with increased demands for transfusions.
This blood donation campaign is also held ahead of the Croatian Navy Day, which gives it additional significance. Participants not only contribute to saving lives but also symbolically mark one of the most important dates in the Navy's history. The next planned campaign is scheduled for December 2024, when there will again be an opportunity to donate blood and continue this commendable tradition.
The collection of 78 units of blood during this campaign is an important step in ensuring sufficient quantities of blood for emergency medical needs in the Split region. Each unit can potentially save someone's life, and voluntary blood donors play a key role in the healthcare system. Additionally, these campaigns have a broader social impact by raising awareness about the importance of blood donation and encouraging others to participate in similar initiatives.
