President of the Republic of Croatia Zoran Milanović will participate in the NATO summit to be held in Washington, United States, from July 9 to 11, 2024.
The NATO summit in Washington represents the regular annual meeting of the Alliance at which numerous documents and decisions will be adopted, including the decision to continue assisting Ukraine. There will be discussions on the implementation of previous decisions related to strengthening NATO's defense and deterrence systems, as well as member states' contributions to defense.
As part of the summit, there will also be a regular meeting of members with partners from Asia and the Pacific (Japan, Australia, the Republic of Korea, and New Zealand) and representatives of the European Union. This summit will be the last for the current NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, as he will be succeeded by former Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte on October 1, 2024.
On the first day of the summit, Tuesday, July 9, a ceremonial program will mark the 75th anniversary of NATO, whose founding was initiated in Washington on April 4, 1949. Croatia has been a member of NATO since 2009 and is celebrating 15 years of membership this year.
During his stay in Washington, President Milanović will meet with Croatian emigrants at a reception at the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Washington.
