Defense Minister Ivan Anušić visited the "132nd Brigade HV" barracks in Našice on September 9, 2024, to familiarize himself with the progress of modernization and working conditions of the Croatian Army personnel. This visit represents a continuation of the Ministry of Defense's ongoing efforts to improve the living and working conditions of soldiers, as well as to provide the most modern equipment for the Croatian Armed Forces.
Minister Anušić particularly emphasized the importance of investing in soldiers' material rights and mentioned that significant salary increases have been achieved from the end of 2023 to the present. The lowest salaries, such as those for soldiers and sailors, have been increased by 40%, while the salaries of all military personnel have risen on average by 30%. "These steps enable better motivation and conditions for all members of the Croatian Armed Forces," said Anušić. Furthermore, he stressed that equipping and modernizing the military remain a priority, with a focus on purchasing advanced combat systems such as Rafale fighter jets, Black Hawk helicopters, Bradley fighting vehicles, and HIMARS systems, which will soon be introduced into service.
During the visit, the minister toured the 1st Armored Mechanized Battalion "Sokolovi," which is crucial for the Croatian Army's operational tasks. Bradley vehicles, which began arriving last year, are currently undergoing reconstruction and repair at Đuro Đaković and will soon be handed over to the Sokolovi for daily use. The presentation at the barracks covered the technical readiness of the unit, operational capabilities, and challenges faced by the battalion members. This long-term plan for equipping is part of Croatia's strategic cooperation with the United States, and it includes many other projects that enhance Croatia's defense capability.
Minister Anušić also emphasized the importance of training and continuous improvement of soldiers to be ready for any potential threats. Training of the Croatian Armed Forces is conducted daily, with a strong emphasis on the use of modern military technology and integration with NATO standards. Additionally, Anušić confirmed that the "132nd Brigade HV" barracks will be covered by a comprehensive renovation and modernization plan, which will further improve working conditions for all personnel stationed at that barracks.
The continuation of these projects ensures Croatia's long-term security and enables the Armed Forces to keep pace with the latest military technologies. The Croatian government, with the support of its strategic partners, continues to invest in defense infrastructure and equipment. Minister Anušić also announced additional visits to barracks across the country to personally assess the progress of modernization and address specific challenges faced by members of the Armed Forces.
