On July 16, 2022, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, a comprehensive navigation safety inspection named "safe navigation 2024" was conducted. The activity covered all port authorities with an emphasis on preventing maritime accidents during the tourist season when many domestic and foreign vessels are present in Croatian waters.
Within this action, the focus was on controlling navigation speed in prohibited areas, monitoring vessel rentals, and supervising swimmers, divers, and other participants in maritime traffic. Special attention was given to passenger ships conducting day trips and multi-day cruises, aiming to check the validity of ship certificates, the number of crew members, their qualifications, and their alcohol status. Additionally, passenger overloading and compliance with mandatory registrations through the CIMIS system were checked.
In the action, 122 port authority employees participated with 24 vessels, covering a total of 1152 nautical miles.
During the action, some vessels were also used for emergency medical transports. A vessel assigned to the Rab port authority station performed one medical transport, while a vessel assigned to the Šibenik Port Authority carried out four medical transports of patients. Besides that, the action included a search for a swimmer whose disappearance was reported in the morning hours. The search was coordinated between MRCC Rijeka, Dubrovnik Port Authority, and Dubrovnik Maritime and Airport Police. Unfortunately, the swimmer was found deceased.
A total of 427 inspections were conducted during the action, with 141 violations of regulations determined. Fines totaling 97,886.57 euros were issued, and fines collected on the spot amounted to 30,595.53 euros.
